EatWhat (“the app”) helps you decide where to eat by picking a nearby restaurant that matches your filters. This policy explains what data the app uses and how.
Location. When you tap “Pick for me,” the app requests your current location (with your permission) and sends it to the Google Places API to search for nearby restaurants. Your location is used only to perform that search and to show how far a restaurant is from you. The app does not store your location history and does not associate your location with your identity.
If you deny location permission, the app cannot find nearby restaurants and will show guidance to enable location in Settings.
Filter preferences and last result. Your selected filters (distance, price, rating) and the most recently picked restaurant are stored on your device (in a shared app container) so the Home Screen widget can show and re-roll your pick. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
The app uses the Google Places API to retrieve nearby restaurant data (names, ratings, price levels, addresses, photos). When the app makes a request, your location and search radius are sent to Google. Google’s handling of that data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any other third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or tracking.
We, the developer, do not collect, receive, or store any of your personal data on our own servers. The app has no backend of its own. All processing happens on your device or directly between your device and Google.
EatWhat is rated for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
